Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Haroun Malik has warmly welcomed the UK Government setting up a new Covid testing centre in the region.
The UK Government has opened up a walk-in centre at Clyde FC’s Broadwood Stadium enabling anyone who has Coronavirus symptoms to be tested.
Haroun Malik says the opening of this centre will make it much easier for people who do not drive to get tested and that the UK Government is putting the resources in place to fight the spread of Covid among the local community.
Commenting, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Candidate Haroun Malik said: “The opening of a walk-in Covid testing centre in Cumbernauld is very welcome from the UK Government.
“This will make it much easier for those who cannot drive to be tested urgently if they have symptoms of Covid, helping us to drive down the spread of the virus among communities here.
“The UK Government is carrying out the majority of the testing in Scotland, including right here in Cumbernauld as we continue our fight against the pandemic.
“In particular I am also anxious that BAME communities have full confidence in the safety of the vaccine rollout. I saw former Chancellor Sajid Javid recently tweeted a pre COVID picture of himself and his mother who has now been vaccinated. My own grandparents in their 80’s have had their first vaccine and I would urge everyone to come forward and encourage their loved ones to get vaccinated to protect themselves. BAME communities are a particularly vulnerable group and we should do everything we can to make sure no-one misses out on the protections that the vaccines offer.
“Whilst there is hope with the vaccine rollout, we also cannot drop our efforts against the virus with testing centres and they continue to play a key role in that fight.”
